Our Philosophy

The purpose of the HEMA Rogues is to take the Historical European Martial Arts back to the days of inception, and turn it back into the journey of discovery, camaraderie and cooperation. We seek to provide resources to form cooperative study groups, to review, study and seek answers in both the common and exotic treatises of 13th-19th century Europe.

The Historical European Martial Arts have fallen into the idea that you have to have an instructor, you have to have a club, and you have to have a discipline. We are of the belief that studying these ancient books requires a cooperative group effort, in the same setting that you have book clubs. We don’t align ourselves with any flag, any country of origin, or any one treatise. We believe that all you need are a group of passionate friends, a bunch of swords, some basic safety equipment, a treatise, and a plan.
